Draft — this privacy policy is being reviewed and is not yet in force.
Version 2026-10-30-draft4 · effective [effective date]
This policy explains what personal information Stephen Morris-Beesley, trading as Auto Tech Wiring, collects for Beesley Energy, why, and what you can do about it. It forms part of the terms.
What stays on your own system
Your energy readings, settings, location and car-departure habits stay on your own Home Assistant. They are not sent to us. A copy of your terms acceptance record is kept on your system as well as on our licence server.
What we collect
- Your name and email address
- Your licence key and account ID
- Billing and order details, held by our payment provider, Stripe
- The Beesley Energy version you run
- Which terms version you accepted, with the date, time and time zone, and the order or installation it relates to
- Licence-check information: your licence ID, a scrambled ID for your Home Assistant installation (never the real one) and the Beesley Energy version, sent about once a day. It includes no energy readings.
Error reports (off unless you turn them on)
Error reports are coming in a later update. They will be off unless you turn them on. If you do, we will receive an error message, the software version and the types of equipment involved. Error reports will not include your location, your third-party accounts or your energy readings, and you will be able to turn them off again in the app at any time.
Help chat (off unless you turn it on)
The app's help chat uses Anthropic's Claude, with an Anthropic account and API key you supply yourself. If you turn it on, your question and the live figures it needs to answer it are sent from your Home Assistant to Anthropic under your own account and Anthropic's terms. They are not sent to us.
The phone app and remote access
The app talks to your own Home Assistant. If you use Home Assistant Cloud or another remote-access method, that provider carries the traffic under its own terms. Push notifications use Apple's or Google's notification service, which receives the notification text.
Why we use it
We use personal information to provide and bill your licence, support you, keep Beesley Energy secure, meet our legal duties, and improve Beesley Energy using error reports you have opted in to. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Emails
Service messages, such as renewal reminders, security notices and changes to terms, contain no promotion. We send marketing only if you separately opt in, and every marketing message has an unsubscribe link.
Where it is stored
Our payment provider, Stripe, may store data outside Australia. Our licence server is in Australia (Sydney). Stripe stores data in the United States and other countries where it operates.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encryption in transit and limiting who can see it. We never ask for your passwords, tokens or API keys. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
Automated decisions
Beesley Energy decides what schedules to send using your settings and forecasts. It does not make decisions that significantly affect your legal rights.
Support logs
If you send us logs for support, we use them only to help you and delete them after 90 days. Remove anything private you do not want us to see before you send them.
How long we keep it
We keep your acceptance record as long as we need to prove acceptance, up to 7 years after your licence ends. Other account information is deleted or de-identified within 90 days after your licence ends, except what we must keep for tax, legal or dispute reasons. Data on your own system stays with you.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask to see or correct your personal information, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. We reply within 30 days.
Privacy complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at [email protected] (see complaints). If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
